Take me to the Corner's Stone in Alphabet City
Corny title, I know…but we’re not here for that.
I like places that make me brag about food. And service. And simplicity. You know, those places that seem tucked away with great value for the price. That’s Cornerstone Cafe.
So over the past few weeks I’ve been on a grits binge. Being from a Southern family, I’ve been judging and eating grits for as long as I could remember. You know what I’ve come to realize? Grits are either good or their not. Honestly, there’s no in between. If they’re not good, then you just don’t know how to make them…and that’s that on that. With that said, whenever I’m about to order grits I look the server straight in the eye and passionately ask “are the grits good? Would you eat them?” What people who aren’t used to grits don’t realize is that if grits aren’t good you’ll never eat them again. If they’re good, you’ll cosign them! Anyway, the waiter told me that they’re good, just cheesy. Another tip, cheesy grits are never bad. Hardly ever. They make it better actually. So I opted in.
The grits were good. Tons of cheddar and very cheesy (he didn’t lie). They came steamy hot so I ate my other meal first. I ordered the Salmon Egg Benedict, which was accompanied with a salad and some roasted potatoes. I checked in on Yelp and realized my meal came with a free coffee. I’m not big on coffee but I’m huge on free stuff so let’s redeem that while we’re here. The salmon eggs benedict was also something to remember. I mean it sounds simple, but it was really good! Big portion too (I mean it should be because it isn’t cheap). Salad fresh and all that cute stuff.
I like the feel of this place though. It truly is a cafe located on the corner with plenty of tasty options on the menu. Judging my meal alone, I’m pretty sure it’s hard to be disappointed here. The service was undeniably good too. Gets quite busy pretty quickly. For all my drivers, there’s street parking right in front. I’d be happy to return.
