Under The Sea at Lamia’s

Okkkkkkk…the guys are stepping their game up! There’s two things a man can do in the beginning stage that’ll grab my attention 1) Put me on to good music and/or 2) Put me on to a good restaurant.

So short story, long…. let’s get into this!

Last week I had a date night here. Prior to getting to the location I did some research because, believe it or not, I’m never that impressed on dinner dates. I feel like dinner dates are boring, so routine, and forceful. On top of that, I’ve eaten so many different places and cuisines I prefer a date full of experience rather than just food. Another thing, I’m pescatarian and a lot of people lack effort. If I only eat seafood please don’t take me to a place that only has 1-2 seafood dishes. Call me picky, but you’re still calling 😉. Point is, I have to truly like you to just sit next to you and make up conversation even though I really just want to eat. Feel me? I agreed to the date anyway because…food. Plus, whenever I get the opportunity to try a new place that seems interesting, I’m all in baby!

Enough about the date though, let’s get into this restaurant! So upon entry it just looks quite magical. Really like the little mermaid meets modern day decor. You really get to easily grasp the interior designer’s sea concept. Very blue, water accents, silky, luxuriously pure. The restaurant is spacious. There’s about 3 sections: the front dining area by the bar, the main dining area, and the back dining area behind the live fish seating area (this area is ideal for your sneaky dates). Everything felt like pearls and riches but still affordable for your average patron. Now the food… CHILE! At first, I was quite annoyed. If you know me you know my obsession for calamari. Well, they didn’t have that. I also love a Sea Bass, and well, they didn’t have that either. At this point I started to get Jamaican restaurant vibes. Touché. So I decided to start out with the fish fries and settled on the squid ink with crab meat as my meal. Remember this is a date, homeboy was ready to spend the coin! He had a steak and for a second I almost became a carnivore. The food was beyond my expectations. True and big portions, plenty of flavor, and tasted just as good as it looked. I would come back here for sure. Can’t lie though, very happy I didn’t have to pay this time around because whew!

The waiter was new and I couldn’t even tell. He was knowledgeable, patient, and attentive. I like when I’m not feeling rushed. I didn’t want to get two appetizers but wanted to try the oysters; so he recommended the free oyster shooter (good enough to satisfy your oyster craving) if you check in on Yelp. That’s always a plus. Oh! This restaurant doesn’t have hard liquor. You can choose between wine, champagne, and mixed cocktails with Sake. I’m a wine person so I went with a Cabernet.

Back to the date…nice gentleman. We had great conversation, he’s a foodie like me, definitely put in some effort, and still holds the door open and made sure I sat first. He even made sure I got a good picture in since there was a photo op wall there. He let me taste his drink before he touched it and let me try his potatoes, selfless lover—I like that! 5 points for sharing (momma raised him right); 5 points for choosing this restaurant. Yea, we can do this again.
