The BOILery
…and how dare they just jack The Boil’s name like that? I must admit, they can get away with it.
So The Boil is my favorite seafood boil restaurant in the city. They’re consistent and never disappoint. They don’t take reservations though and the wait can seem like forever but it’s worth it. But my lovely folks, this isn’t about them!
The Boilery is a new seafood boil spot that I’ve been seeing pop up and around in the city. I initially assumed they were affiliated with The Boil, but that’s not the case. It’s the same dining concept: seafood boils, fried seafood, po boys and more. You can either share or get it for yourself. I don’t share food though.
So I came here with a good friend for lunch. They have a great lunch menu filled with some fried favorites, boils, and po boys. Also, they have an appetizer and drink happy hour during the day which is always appreciated. The food was way better than I expected. I pre-judged this place. Due to its name, I automatically felt it would be a remix. When I think remix - I think bootleg. When I think bootleg - I think not like the original. I can happily admit that I was wrong. The service was lovely and attentive. The woman (who I assumed was Korean but is actually Croatian and I’m still mind blown) was amazing. She gave us a bit of background of the restaurant and let us know some of their future plans/locations. The staff was very welcoming.
The food didn’t disappoint in the slightest. I chose the calamari (I was making up for Lamia’s in my previous post) as an appetizer and the shrimp and clam boil as my meal. My friend had the wings as an appetizer and shrimp and crawfish boil as her meal. I actually hate playing with crawfish but I tried hers and it was good enough to play today! With her, she hates calamari and really widened her eyes in surprise when she tried mine.
We were both satisfied with our meals. Full of spices and seasonings and very full portions. The price was even better. You ever get a bill way cheaper than you expected you just want to tip a ridiculous amount? It was one of those. I mean the waitress deserved it anyway but we didn’t deserve that low bill.
By the way… if I HAD to compare it to The Boil, here’s the pros:
Opened all day opposed to just the evening
No long wait for a table (yet)
Happy Hour on food and drinks
Multiple Locations (The Boil only has 2)
