Island Tings Pon Fort Greene
Finally the wait is over! *Rihanna Voice*
Imani has been the talk of town since it's opened. Let me be the first to tell you…
It's over-hyped!
I mean I'm not one to care more about places because it's popular, over than it actually living to it's hype. Don't get me wrong, Imani is good. But it stops there.
Cool vibe? Yes. Food tasty? Yes, but we have better options in Brooklyn. Prices fair? Yes, and there's happy hour on select appetizers on Mondays. Full disclosure: I had no alcoholic beverages or large plates. Just indulged in a few small plates (ackee and saltfish spring rolls, codfish fritters, fish tacos). The fritters had a pepper dipping sauce and I should’ve taken my time with that. That f*cked up my whole palette.
I’ll come back but I don’t think this place is as good as everyone made it seem. I get that it’s not your typical Caribbean restaurant. You're not waiting hours like Footprints and you're not amongst a overly loud atmosphere like Negril. No shade, but that's what makes Imani a breath of fresh air. Let's not forget it's also in the now beautifully gentrified neighborhood of Fort Greene. I also need to fact check to see if this place is truly black owned, because I heard otherwise by someone who worked there. I won’t be too judgy but y’all know how that goes.
It’s cute and it’s a great addition to the neighborhood. I won’t mind going back but I know I could get better for my coin.
