Caribbean Food on the Island

Staten Island that is! Yea, I couldn’t believe it either. Since my lackluster experience at Imani I was on a hunt for a better Caribbean experience. That’s a bad habit of mine; always trying to redeem myself from a bad experience.
Anyway! So as I was in Staten Island I wanted to try some reggae food. I went to Yelp and saw this place had 3.5 stars. However, the bad reviews were just based off of typical Jamaican restaurant stuff “not consistent with their hours” “inconsistent” blah, blah, blah. I’m used to that with my Jamaican folk, so all I really cared to know was if the food was good. Most of the reviews actually raved about the food. And they had every reason to!

I decided to do take out and called in advance. I ordered steamed fish and specifically asked for curry gravy on my rice and peas (secretly praying the service would be good enough to make sure this gets done). The call was simple yet pleasant and welcoming. Once I arrived, my food was actually waiting on me. That made me happy.
Sidebar: the restaurant is like your typical Jamaican vibe. Some chairs to dine in. Nothing too fancy but I’m sure you’ll have a great time once the music and drinks start rolling.
Now about the food. The rice wasn’t too mushy nor did it have hard spots. It tasted like it was made to order, yea…that good! Andddddd sis put the curry gravy on it, 5 points! The steamed fish was delicious and the sauce for it was even better. Again, very fresh. The cabbage was well seasoned. Not too crunchy and not too soggy. Perfect texture. Plantains…same. I don’t know but I was so happy eating this. Truly tasted like perfection. It honestly was so good that I wouldn’t mind going back to Staten Island for it again. But I might not do that. That toll is a bit much. 😂😩
